Björkåfrihet Backaplan
Non-profit association that runs second-hand business and solidarity work
Lundby, Gothenburg
Björkåfrihet is a non-profit association with over 50 years of experience in second hand and solidarity work. In one day, Björkåfrihet sorts an average of 5 tonnes of clothing, home textiles, shoes and accessories. Housewares, electronics, books and furnishings count as hard goods, and there the business sorts through approximately 6 tonnes in a day.
Björkåfrihet believes in reusing as much as possible. And urges us to buy only what you need and actually use.
In 2019, Björkåfrihet became the world’s first non-profit secondhand organization with quality and environmental management certification according to ISO9001/14001.
The association carries out international solidarity work and public opinion work by supporting organizations that work against oppression around the world. At home, the association supports the asylum rights movement and organizations that work with undocumented people.
